Natural Drain Cleaners

Many people prefer to unblock drains using natural ingredients before they move on to the harsher chemicals. One such method that uses natural ingredients is:

  • In a dry sink you need to pour at least 1 cup of baking soda down the blocked drain and make sure that the powder makes it way down the drain.
  • Once you have poured the baking soda in the drain follow it by 2 cups of boiling water and wait several minutes.
  • Pour another cup of baking soda in and follow this by one cup of plain white vinegar.
  • Plug the drain.
  • You will notice bubbles and a sizzling noise being emitted from the drain
  • Once the bubbles have disappeared add another 2 cups of boiling water.
  • This process should be repeated once a month to keep your sinks unblocked.

There are many products out there that are designed to unblock drains. Most of these drain cleaners will need to be poured directly into the blocked drain where the chemical drain cleaner will dissolve the grease and build-up that has caused the blockage.

These contain ingredients that are designed to eliminate the germs that cause odours from a blocked drain.

You should always follow the instructions when using these heavy duty cleaning products.

One of the side effects of a blocked drain is nasty odours. The cause of a blocked drain is when large items get stuck in the drainer and begin to clog up the drainage pipe. These items will then begin to rot where bacteria breeds and releases the nasty smell.

Frequent cleaning of sinks will keep drains free of unwanted debris as well as keep bad odours away. You can use baking soda and vinegar to keep drains free of odours.
